Product Information
- Picolinicacid, 6-methoxy-, methyl ester (7CI,8CI)
- Methyl6-methoxy-2-pyridinecarboxylate
Methyl 6-methoxypyridine-2-carboxylate is an additive that can be used in the alkaline hydrolysis of esters. The pyridine nitrogen atom has a substituent effect on the methyl group, as it is electron donating and inductive. Substituent effects are seen when there are different atoms or groups attached to the same carbon atom. Methyl 6-methoxypyridine-2-carboxylate reacts with nucleophiles such as water, alcohols, amines, thiols, and acids to form esters and amides. These reactions are promoted by an acidic environment. The analogous reaction of methyl 6-methoxypyridine-2-carboxylate is its reaction with ammonia to form an amide.
