Description:2,5-Dimethyl-thiophene-3-carbaldehyde (2,5-DMT) is a pyrylium salt that is used as an anticancer agent. It inhibits tumor cell growth by inhibiting the synthesis of nucleic acids and proteins. When combined with perchloric acid, 2,5-DMT has been shown to have antitumor activity against tumor cells in vitro. The anticancer activity of 2,5-DMT has been confirmed in vivo through xenografts in mice. This drug also has potential to be used as a screening tool for identifying compounds that inhibit cancer cell proliferation.
