Product Information

Name:
Dehydrocrenatine
Synonyms:
  • 1-Vinyl-4-methoxy-beta-carboline
Description:

Dehydrocrenatine is a quassinoid that is isolated from the bark of Picrasma Quassioides. It has potent cytotoxicity against human ovarian carcinoma cells and other tumor cell lines. Dehydrocrenatine has been shown to inhibit the growth of human ovarian carcinoma cells in vitro by inhibiting protein synthesis, which may be due to its inhibition of β-carboline alkaloids. Dehydrocrenatine also inhibits the activity of enzymes, such as hydroxylase, which are involved in the activation of prodrugs and xenobiotics. In addition, dehydrocrenatine has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells by binding to DNA and inducing apoptosis through an unknown mechanism.
