Eclipta prostrata is a flowering plant in the daisy family. It is native to South America and Central America, but can now be found in many other countries. The plant contains 2-(4-chloro-3-hydroxy-1-butynyl)-5-(1,3-pentadiynyl)thiophene as one of its active ingredients. This compound has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and anticancer properties, as well as antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli, Listeria monocytogenes, Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Candida albicans. Eclipta prostrata may also have antiviral activity against herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1).
