Product Information
Episyringaresinol is a sesquiterpene lactone that has been shown to be active against oral pathogens. It was found that episyringaresinol has antimicrobial activity against E. coli, S. aureus and P. aeruginosa, without any cytotoxicity to the host cells. Episyringaresinol also inhibits the growth of tumor cells in vitro and in vivo by causing cell cycle arrest at the G2/M phase with induction of apoptosis. The molecular docking analysis indicates that episyringaresinol interacts with cytochrome C oxidase (COX) subunit II, which is responsible for mitochondrial membrane potential and energy metabolism, suggesting that it may have therapeutic potential for treating cancer or other diseases involving mitochondrial dysfunction.
