Product Information
- Hydnocarpin
Hydnocarpin is a natural compound found in plants and has been shown to have inhibitory properties against microbial infection. Hydnocarpin inhibits the growth of bacteria by interfering with the synthesis of fatty acids and can be used as an anti-infective agent. Hydnocarpin has been shown to show significant cytotoxicity against cancer cells. This compound can also be used to treat metabolic disorders such as diabetes mellitus, obesity, and cardiovascular diseases. Hydnocarpin is metabolized by cytochrome P450 enzymes in the liver. The iodination reaction converts hydrocinnamic acid into protocatechuic acid, which is then oxidized by peroxidase enzymes to give dihydrocoumarin, which is reduced to hydroquinone by NADH or NADPH. The hydroxylation of dihydrocoumarin produces hydroxydihydrocoumarin, which spontaneously undergoes lactonization.
