Product Information
Methyl 1-bromocyclopentane-1-carboxylate is an isomer of the methyl ester of cyclopentanecarboxylic acid. It has been shown to undergo nucleophilic attack by a nucleophile, such as ammonia, methylamine, or water. The reaction mechanism involves a carbonyl group with an adjacent amide that can be protonated to form a carbanion intermediate. This intermediate then reacts with a nucleophile to form the desired product and regenerates the carbonyl group. Methyl 1-bromocyclopentane-1-carboxylate was not able to be crystallized in x-ray diffraction studies due to its high melting point.
