Destruxin A is a cyclic peptide that contains an unusual 4-amino-4-deoxy-L-arabinose moiety. This compound is able to inhibit the polymerase chain reaction in cells and has been shown to be effective against cancer cell lines, including those of human origin. Destruxin A also inhibits the production of hemocytes and has been shown to be toxic to galleria mellonella larvae. This compound has been shown to have effects on the heart, such as congestive heart failure and arrhythmia, as well as its ability to cause cancerous growths in tissues. Destruxin A is found in natural compounds, such as those found in plants and marine algae. It also acts as an analogue for a chemical pesticide that activates signal pathways that are involved with cellular proliferation.
