dBET6 is a heterobifunctional ubiquitin ligase that can both activate and deactivate proteins. It has been shown to have a role in leukemic stem cells, which are able to self-renew indefinitely. dBET6 binds to the bromodomain of the mcl-1 protein, which is involved in the regulation of apoptosis. dBET6 also binds to the cell factor molecule, which is present in cancer cells. The binding of dBET6 to these molecules leads to the activation or deactivation of specific cellular processes.
