SU 4942 is an analog of the anilinoquinazoline class of compounds, which are tyrosine kinase inhibitors. SU 4942 binds to and inhibits the activity of protein tyrosine kinases in cells, preventing the transformation of growth factors into active forms that regulate cell proliferation and survival. SU 4942 has been shown to prevent atherosclerosis in animal models by decreasing the deposition of lipids in blood vessels. This drug also prevents cancer by inducing apoptosis and suppressing angiogenesis.
