Product Information
Galeopsin is a labiate diterpene that is found in the roots of Galeopsis pubescens. It has been shown to inhibit tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) production and apoptotic cell death, which may be due to its inhibition of proinflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-1β and interleukin-6. Galeopsin also displays an inhibitory effect on the proliferation of human liver cancer cells in vitro. The mechanism for this effect is not yet known, but it is thought to be related to its ability to inhibit the receptor for TNF-α. Galeopsin can also induce apoptosis in a factor receptor-dependent manner, suggesting that it may act as an anti-tumor agent or anti-inflammatory agent. This compound has been found in plants such as Labiatae and has been shown to have strong antioxidant properties.
