Shikimic acid ethyl ester is a kinetic, hydroxyl group, hydroxy group, stereoselective, dehydration, chloride, protocatechuic acid, benzoate compound. It has the chemical formula C8H10O4 and its molecular weight is 172.17 g/mol. Shikimic acid ethyl ester is commonly used as an intermediate in organic synthesis reactions. The reaction of shikimate with methyl formate produces shikimic acid methyl ester (C7H8O3) and methyl alcohol (CH3OH). Acetylation or acylation of shikimic acid ethyl ester produces acetylshikimate or acylshikimate respectively. Shikimic acid ethyl ester can be prepared by dry weight synthesis or asymmetric synthesis.
