GW 311616 is a natural compound that has been shown to have therapeutic benefits in animal models of bowel disease. It has been demonstrated to be efficacious in vivo, and it was found to be an ATP-binding cassette transporter inhibitor. GW 311616 also inhibits the inflammatory response by inhibiting the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines. Clinical trials are currently underway for GW 311616 as a potential treatment for autoimmune diseases, including inflammatory bowel disease. This drug is not yet approved for human use.
