Product Information
3-Methyl-3-phenylcyclobutan-1-one (3MP) is a chiral, synthetic intermediate in the synthesis of 3,4-dimethylcyclohexanone. The synthesis of 3MP starts with the deprotonation of cyclobutanone to form an enolate that undergoes an elimination reaction to form cyclopentane. The carbon dioxide produced in this process is captured by potassium carbonate, which then reacts with the aryl group on the cyclopentane to produce 3MP. The regioselectivity of this process can be controlled by substitution at the alpha position on the ring.
