Product Information
Sigmoidin A is a natural product isolated from the roots of the medicinal plant, S. sclerocarpus. It is an indole alkaloid with a pyrrolizidine skeleton. The compound was found to be active in vitro against human leukemia cells and has shown potential as a cancer chemotherapeutic agent. Sigmoidin A also inhibits cell growth at low concentrations in culture due to its ability to inhibit protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of bacteria and inhibiting transcription-translation by DNA-dependent RNA polymerase.
