Description:KW 8232 is a prodrug that is converted to 8-aza-7-oxo-5-(3,4,5-trihydroxybenzyl)-2-(1H)-isoquinolinecarboxylic acid. It has been shown to have a statistically significant effect on bone growth in Sprague Dawley rats. The conversion of KW 8232 to its active form is dependent on the presence of phosphatases and immobilization. KW 8232 has been shown to be effective in clinical studies involving male and female patients with sciatic pain, but not immobilized patients. KW 8232 may also have a beneficial effect on the prevention of osteoporosis due to its ability to stimulate bone growth.
