The molecular modeling study showed that this drug binds to the p2y receptors on the cells' surface and activates them. This activation leads to an increase in cellular adenylyl cyclase activity, causing an increase in intracellular cAMP levels. Derenofylline has shown cardioprotective effects when administered before or after myocardial infarction and can be used for the treatment of congestive heart failure.
