Moniliformin is a cyclic peptide that is produced by the fungus Monilia sp. Moniliformin has been shown to be cytotoxic to bacteria, including E. coli and S. aureus, as well as human liver cells. The LC-MS/MS method used to identify moniliformin in the fungal extract showed that this compound inhibits DNA polymerase activity at low concentrations, which may contribute to its genotoxic effects. Moniliformin induces an antibody response in rabbits and mice when administered subcutaneously or intraperitoneally, but does not induce an immune response in humans. This drug also inhibits the growth of C. albicans and other fungi at high concentrations.
