Description:Mycophenolic acid is an immunosuppressant metabolite present in drug formulations that are used to prevent rejections after organ transplants. Mycophenolic acid is a selective inhibitor of inosine monophosphate dehydrogenase (IMPDH) which blocks the conversion of inosine-5-phosphate and xanthine-5-phosphate to guanosine-5-phosphate. This drug inhibits de novo purine biosynthesis. It has also shown to have antibacterial and antifungal properties.
