MI 503 induces apoptosis by binding to the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), which leads to the activation of downstream signaling pathways. These pathways include phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase, protein kinase B, and extracellular signal-regulated kinases 1 and 2, which eventually lead to activation of caspases and cleavage of poly-(ADP-ribose) polymerase.
