1-Methylnicotinamide chloride (1MNC) is a drug that inhibits monoamine neurotransmitter synthesis, resulting in increased levels of dopamine, serotonin and norepinephrine. It has been shown to have an effect on energy metabolism, as it decreases mitochondrial membrane potential and increases locomotor activity. 1MNC has also been shown to have nootropic effects by increasing neuronal death. This drug can be used to treat bowel disease in vivo and is an oral hypoglycaemic with electrochemical detection. 1MNC also has the ability to inhibit matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) activity, which may be a therapeutic target for the treatment of diseases such as hepatitis.
