Nizatidine is a histamine H2 receptor antagonist that is used to treat GERD and a variety of ulcers. Competitive inhibition of H2 receptors results in reduction of basal and nocturnal gastric acid secretions. This drug also decreases the gastric acid response to stimuli such as food and caffeine.
