Sildenafil-d8 is a chemical that is used in medicine. It is the 8-deuterated analog of sildenafil. Sildenafil-d8 has been shown to be more potent than sildenafil in inhibiting phosphodiesterase type-5 (PDE5) and to have a longer half-life. This drug has been shown to be effective in the treatment of pulmonary hypertension, which may be due to its ability to relax smooth muscle cells. Sildenafil-d8 can also be used for the treatment of erectile dysfunction, as it inhibits PDE5, an enzyme that degrades cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). The effects of this drug are dose dependent and are enhanced by the presence of a matrix effect.
