Fosravuconazole is an anti-fungal agent that inhibits the growth of fungi by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, which is a vital component of fungal cell membranes. It binds to the sterol 14 alpha-demethylase enzyme, preventing it from converting lanosterol to ergosterol. Fosravuconazole has been shown to be effective against Prototheca species and other filamentous fungi. It also has diagnostic properties that are able to detect the presence of these organisms in water samples via a diagnostic test for the fungus' ability to produce lysine, and has been studied as a potential treatment for protothecosis in animals. Fosravuconazole interacts with drugs metabolized by cytochrome P450 enzymes, such as erythromycin, which can lead to drug interactions or reduced efficacy.
