SB 243213 is a cell-permeable, potent, and selective inhibitor of the Kv1.3 potassium channel that is used as a research tool in pharmacology and cell biology. SB 243213 is a peptide that binds to the receptor site on the Kv1.3 channel and blocks ion flow, thereby inhibiting this type of potassium channel. The binding affinity of SB 243213 to the Kv1.3 receptor site is greater than 10,000 times higher than its binding affinity for other ion channels such as the nicotinic acetylcholine receptors. This agent has been shown to be an activator of protein interactions in cells and has also been used as an antibody labeling reagent.
