Product Information
Imidazole ketone erastin (IKE) is a small molecule that inhibits translation in E. coli by binding to the ribosome and inhibiting the incorporation of amino acids into polypeptides. It has been shown to reduce the growth of colorectal cancer cells in tissue culture and show anticancer efficacy in mice. IKE prevents reassembling of DNA strands, validation, and ferroptosis in E. coli, which may be due to its ability to bind to RNA polymerase during translation initiation. Imidazole ketone erastin has also been shown to inhibit water surface interactions and may have antidepressant effects, although these are not well understood. Potential mechanisms for IKE include inhibition of protein synthesis or interference with transcription or translation.
