Clobazam is an anticonvulsant drug with a broad spectrum of activity, which is used in the treatment of epilepsy. It has been shown to have a low incidence of side effects and to be well tolerated by patients in clinical trials. Clobazam is also effective against acute and chronic pain and can be used as an adjunctive therapy for the treatment of generalized anxiety disorder. This drug has been shown to bind to the α1 subunit of the GABA receptor, which may contribute to its therapeutic effect. Clobazam is metabolized by human cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4), which can lead to drug interactions if it interacts with other drugs that are metabolized by this enzyme. Clobazam binds competitively with recombinant human CYP3A4 and chemical inhibitors have also been found that bind to clobazam’s binding site on recombinant human CYP3A4.
