The type species of this protein is Lactobacillus acidophilus, which is a proteolytic enzyme found in the stomach and intestine of mammals. Glycyl-DL-tryptophan inhibits the activity of arylamidase, an enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis of amides. This protein has been isolated from type strains of Lactobacillus acidophilus and Lactobacillus helveticus.
