Acetonyl triphenylphosphonium bromide is an acetal that can be used to selectively acetylate amines, heterocyclic amines, and aldehydes. Acetonyl triphenylphosphonium bromide has been shown to be useful for chemoselective acetylation of amines in both acidic and basic conditions. In addition, this compound can be used as a catalyst for azide-alkyne cycloaddition reactions. Acetonyl triphenylphosphonium bromide has also been shown to have reusable properties in the form of its ability to react with alkyl groups.
