Vat Red 1 absorbs ultraviolet radiation with a maximum at about 350 nm. The absorption of UV-A radiation increases with an increase in film thickness; however, the absorption of UV-B radiation does not change substantially with an increase in film thickness. Vat Red 1 is insoluble in water and organic solvents, but is soluble in methanol and ethanol. This product has shown to be effective against skin cancer cells.
