MCPA methyl ester is a phenoxy herbicide that is used to control broadleaf weeds and grasses in crops. It is registered for use on the following crops: corn, soybean, wheat, sorghum, barley, oats, rye, rice, and cane. MCPA methyl ester has also been approved as an herbicide for non-crop uses such as landscaping and golf courses. This product can be detected in urine samples by gas chromatography with flame ionization detection (GC-FID) or gas chromatography with mass spectrometry (GC-MS) methods. Residues of MCPA methyl ester can be quantified by GC-MS analysis of butyric acid standards. The analytical method is based on pyrethroid gel permeation chromatography.
