2-Bromo-N-butyl-4-nitroaniline is a quinoline derivative that has been used in analytical chemistry for the determination of hydrochloric acid. It is able to be taken up by muscle and hexane, which are then conjugated with piperidine to form 2-bromo-N-butylpiperidine. This compound can be separated into its two isomers, 2-(2'-bromoethyl)benzene and 2-(2'-bromopropyl)benzene, using gel permeation chromatography or adsorption chromatography. This separation can be achieved because the two compounds have different solubility properties.
