2,3,4-Trimethylquinoline is a fluorescent probe that binds to DNA and is used to detect genotoxic effects. It has shown to inhibit the activities of enzymes such as superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione reductase in rat liver microsomes. 2,3,4-Trimethylquinoline can be used for the treatment of autoimmune diseases by inhibiting the production of antibodies against self-antigens. This drug has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties as well as cytotoxic effects on benign and malignant cells. 2,3,4-Trimethylquinoline induces cell death by interfering with the mitochondrial electron transport chain and generating reactive oxygen species. It also causes apoptosis in liver cells through caspase activation.
