Description:

Chinomethionate is a fungicidal pesticide that belongs to the group of organophosphorus compounds. It is an ester of methylphosphonic acid and choline that functions as a carbamate insecticide. Chinomethionate has been shown to be toxic in a number of animal studies, with effects including inhibition of energy metabolism and disruption of carbohydrate, lipid, and protein synthesis. In vitro assays have demonstrated that this compound is toxic to many fungi, including Aspergillus fumigatus, Candida albicans, Epidermophyton floccosum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, and Microsporum canis. It has been used as a synchronous fluorescence detector for optical sensors in toxicological studies. Chinomethionate is also used in combination preparations with other pesticides such as carbaryl (Sevin) and chlorpyrifos. The toxicity of these combinations has not been studied extensively.
