The carbonyl group on this molecule can undergo electropolymerization in the presence of trifluoroacetic acid and yields a red polymer with a molecular weight of 1000 Da. This polymer is soluble in polar solvents such as water and methanol, but insoluble in nonpolar solvents such as hexane or benzene.
