Phorate oxon-d10 is a pesticide with a broad spectrum of activity against insects, mites, and other arthropods. It inhibits the enzyme acetylcholinesterase, which leads to an accumulation of acetylcholine at synapses. This can lead to paralysis and death in insects. Phorate oxon-d10 has been evaluated for its effects on various organisms including toxicity to mammals, birds, and fish; inhibition rates of cholinesterases; and modulation of growth regulators in plants. Studies have shown that it has no significant toxicities to mammals and birds but is toxic to fish and shrimp. It also has low reactivation potentials in soil.
