Description:1-(2-Phenylacetyl)pyrrolidine-2-carboxylic acid is a synthetic acylase inhibitor. It is prepared from valine, chloroacetic acid, and phenylacetyl chloride by condensation of the carboxylic acid chloride with the amine in the presence of a base, followed by hydrolysis of the ester. 1-(2-Phenylacetyl)pyrrolidine-2-carboxylic acid can be used to prepare other compounds that have an acylase activity. This compound has been shown to inhibit acylases that are involved in reactions involving organic solvents or amino acids such as valine and methionine. The reaction rate for this compound is determined by its kinetic, which is stereospecific.
