Dibutyl[(2-ethylhexanoyl)oxy]stannyl 2-ethylhexanoate is a diisocyanate that can be used as an intermediate in the production of silicone. It is soluble in acetonitrile and reacts with xanthates at temperatures above -10°C to produce the corresponding polyurethane. Dibutyl[(2-ethylhexanoyl)oxy]stannyl 2-ethylhexanoate has been shown to react with carboxylic acids, chlorides, and monomers such as dodecyl chloride or hexadecyl chloride to form polyurethanes. The reaction scheme for this process involves an elimination reaction followed by a nucleophilic substitution reaction.
