Product Information
2-Methyl-3-(2-nitrovinyl)-1H-indole is a nitroindole that has significant antibacterial activity. It is an unusual compound, as it does not contain a nitro group or a quinone structure. This compound has been shown to inhibit the growth of myxobacterium and other bacteria by interfering with their cell wall synthesis. 2-Methyl-3-(2-nitrovinyl)-1H-indole also inhibits virus and hepatitis C virus (HCV) replication in vitro. The mechanism of action of this compound involves the inhibition of viral RNA synthesis by binding to the RNA polymerase enzyme in the viral ribonucleoprotein complex. 2-Methyl-3-(2-nitrovinyl)-1H-indole has also been shown to have antimicrobial activity against methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
