2-Amino-4'-chlorobenzophenone is an acylating agent and a toxicant. It is used in organic synthesis, as well as a reagent for the preparation of benzamides, quinolines, and other compounds. 2-Amino-4'-chlorobenzophenone reacts with water to form hydrochloride salts that are soluble in water. It is nonvolatile and has a pH of 4. This chemical has been shown to be toxic to invertebrates at high concentrations. 2-Amino-4'-chlorobenzophenone can be oxidized by air or dissolved oxygen in water to form 2-aminoquinoline, which is also toxic.
2-Amino-4'-chlorobenzophenone has been shown to inhibit the growth of organisms such as test organisms (e.g., Escherichia coli) when used at concentrations between 0.1 and 1%.
