Flutazolam is an analog of the benzodiazepine class of drugs, which are used as sedatives, hypnotics, and anticonvulsants. Flutazolam binds to the GABAA receptor and inhibits locomotor activity in rats. This drug has been shown to have a beneficial effect on bowel disease by reducing inflammation and improving symptoms such as abdominal pain and diarrhea. Flutazolam is also used for the treatment of nocturnal enuresis (bedwetting) in children. Flutazolam is metabolized into polymeric matrixes that are excreted through urine samples. These polymeric matrixes are fatty esters that are formed from a reaction between flutazolam and sodium citrate, human serum albumin, or fatty acids. The chemical ionization mass spectrometry profile of flutazolam is characterized by two major peaks at m/z 193 and m/z 195 which correspond to the molecular
