Methyl isoquinoline-1-carboxylate can also be used as an experimental oxidant for the oxidation of terminal alkenes, such as acrylates, to produce terminal epoxides. This compound is a diastereoisomer of methyl 2,4,6-trimethoxybenzoate and can be synthesized by oxidative coupling of phenylglycine and phenyl ring followed by triflation.
