o-Methylpallidine is a phenylpropanoid that is found in the plant Capaurimia arborescens. It has been shown to inhibit the production of aristolactam and other compounds, such as capaurimine, which are potent inhibitors of bacterial growth. o-Methylpallidine has shown anti-infectious properties against Staphylococcus aureus and other bacteria. It inhibits the synthesis of protopine and s. aureus by inhibiting the enzyme protopine synthase, which catalyzes the first step in the biosynthesis of protopine from phenylalanine. O-Methylpallidine also inhibits hydroxycinnamic acid derivatives, flavonoids, and carotenoids. The inhibition is caused by competitive inhibition at a cytochrome P450-dependent monooxygenase (CYP).
