Description

Diisooctyl phthalate is a phthalate that is used to prepare samples for bacterial analysis. The hydroxyl group on the diisooctyl phthalate molecule reacts with the sample, and this reaction solution can be analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. This compound has been shown to have toxic effects in certain bacteria, including inhibition of growth and induction of cell death. Diisooctyl phthalate has also been shown to have antibacterial properties against gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus.
