Description:The pharmacological and optical isomers of 5-ethyl-5-methyl-1,3-oxazolidine-2,4-dione are used as anesthetic agents. The optical isomers of this drug have been shown to be eliminated from the body in a quantitatively different manner. This can lead to variations in serum levels between the two isomers which may be due to the elimination process being stereoselective. The pharmacological properties of this drug have not been studied in humans; however, it has been shown to have an effect on human hematopoiesis and peripheral blood lymphocytes.
