Product Information
1-Bromo-5-iodonaphthalene is a photolytic reagent that can be used for the preparation of phenols. It is a strong nucleophilic brominating agent and reacts with electron-rich compounds such as phenols, amines, and alcohols to form corresponding bromides. 1-Bromo-5-iodonaphthalene can also react with electron deficient compounds such as aromatic hydrocarbons and nitrobenzenes to form radical species. The photolysis of 1-bromo-5-iodonaphthalene in aqueous solution produces naphthalenes. This reaction is dependent on the pH of the solution and irradiation time. The solubility of 1-bromo-5-iodonaphthalene in water decreases when the pH increases.
