Description:PD 90780 is a potent inhibitor of the ubiquitin-proteasome system, which plays a major role in the degradation of polypeptides. The ubiquitin-proteasome system has been implicated in the degradation of neurotrophins, growth factors and other signaling molecules. PD 90780 also inhibits transcription factor receptor activity and messenger RNA synthesis. It was found to be an antigen for immunological assays. PD 90780 blocks tumor cell growth by interfering with protein synthesis and blocking the activation of factor receptors. This drug also inhibits the production of polypeptides that are required for DNA synthesis, leading to cell death by apoptosis or necrosis.
