Description:DU 6857 is a potent, broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic that inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV. It has been shown to be effective against multidrug-resistant strains of bacteria, such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Mycobacterium tuberculosis. DU 6857 binds to the enzyme DNA gyrase to inhibit the production of proteins vital for cell division. The drug has been shown to have no significant toxicity in humans in clinical trials. However, it should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity reactions or renal dysfunction due to its potential for adverse effects on the kidneys.
