Decarestrictine A1 is a natural product isolated from the fungus Penicillium decarboxyli. Decarestrictine A1 has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of sterigmatocystin biosynthesis in Aspergillus niger. Decarestrictine A1 is also a competitive inhibitor of prochiral alcohols, such as sorbose, in the kinetic resolution of epoxides. It has been shown to be efficient for the stereoselective synthesis of epoxy esters with chiral alcohols and for the asymmetric epoxidation of prochiral olefins.
