Product Information

Name:
2-[Hydroxy(4-nitrophenyl)methyl]prop-2-enenitrile
Description:

2-[Hydroxy(4-nitrophenyl)methyl]prop-2-enenitrile is an active compound that has been shown to be effective against trypanosomes. It binds to the farnesyl protein and inhibits the production of farnesyl pyrophosphate, which is an essential substrate for the synthesis of cholesterol. 2-[Hydroxy(4-nitrophenyl)methyl]prop-2-enenitrile also causes apoptosis in cells, through a mechanism that is not yet well understood. This drug has shown some activity against epimastigotes of T. cruzi and T. brucei, but it does not seem to have any effects on trypomastigotes or morphological changes in trypomastigotes.
